More than a decade after its release, Windows 7 support ended on January 14, 2020. This means that the OS will no longer be receiving security updates. Those using Windows 7 are left exposed to many attacks, including Malware and Ransomware.

You may be asking, what can I do? There are a few options available.

The easiest option is to upgrade to Windows 8.1 or 10. Both of which still receive active support.

Another option is to pay for updates. While this isn’t available to Home Users, users of Windows 7 Enterprise and Windows 7 Professional can pay to extend security updates. This will carry a price tag, and Microsoft hasn’t publicly disclosed what it will cost. Making its effectiveness relative to its cost rather ambiguous.

A more radical option is simply to disconnect your Windows 7 machines from any network. Since almost all attacks come from the internet, removing that connection will remove the distribution of Malware, Ransomware, and other trojans. This can be very effective, but considering how many services now are online reliant, it can limit your computer usage drastically.

You can always make sure that the settings on your Windows 7 machine are configured in a way where you can secure the OS. By making sure your web browser is secure will also ensure that your web traffic has a reduced risk of infecting your machine and OS.

The best way for those who still wish to use Windows 7 would be to implement security software. Using desktop security software such as RollBack Rx Pro will ensure that your OS and machine are secure, with snapshots containing copies of data so that you have a reliable way to recover data should you need to use our patented sector mapping technology. Whether you’re using older Windows OS’ like Windows XP or Windows 7, or newer OS’ like Windows 8.1 or 10, you’ll find that securing your OS will help remove the stress out of using your PC.
