Horizon DataSys’ new freeware offering, Reboot Restore Rx, the winner of the 31st annual Tech & Learning awards for Best New Product makes the decision for shared computing environments simple.

Horizon DataSys, the industry standard in instant PC recovery software, announced today that its Reboot Restore Rx has been selected as a winner of Tech & Learning’s 31st Annual Awards of Excellence for “Best New Products of 2013.”

Reboot Restore Rx is a freeware that simplifies the security and management of multi-user computing environments by automatically restoring workstations back to a predefined configuration with a simple reboot. Reboot Restore Rx’s hard drive write protection allows public PC users to have full access to their workstations. Users can attempt to do their worst — download viruses, delete Windows registry entries, install games, et cetra. Once the user has rebooted the machine will return to the baseline configuration, discarding any and all changes. With Reboot Restore Rx installed IT professionals no longer need to lockdown the PCs limiting the functionality of the workstations. They also don’t have to troubleshoot user issues or to perform rebuilds of the systems using re-imaging or otherwise re-installing Windows from scratch. It was introduced just this year as an alternative to Windows Steady State. Microsoft discontinued SteadyState in December 2010.

Having Reboot Restore Rx’s protection enabled on the public access machines allows IT managers to significantly reduce software related issues and quickly recover from system crashes. Reboot Restore Rx has been shown to result in a marked uptick in the shared computers’ uptime and enables network administrators to more efficiently manage large PC deployments with less staff and fewer resources.
Since Reboot Restore Rx is freeware it’s a perfect fit for cash-strapped schools, libraries, hotels, and other similar public settings. As Lyle Patel, President of Horizon DataSys, explained, “With the discontinuation of Microsoft’s SteadyState, there was a conspicuous lack of solutions designed for shared computer management for 501(c)3s with limited budgets.” Patel offered this as the primary reason that Horizon DataSys created their Reboot Restore Rx which is essentially a stripped-down version of their RollBack Rx technology. “We’re honored by this recognition that Tech & Learning have bestowed on us,” he continued, “and we’re also proud to also have heard back from so many schools, libraries, and other customers who are happy that Reboot Restore Rx.”

Having such a freeware offering in this IT space should make the auto-reset options for public access PC environments simple. “The opportunities for using technology in the classroom have never been better, but making purchasing decisions has never been more difficult,” says Kevin Hogan, Editorial Director for NewBay Media’s Tech & Learning Group. “We hope that the hard work our judges have performed this year adds insight to our readers’ search for the best solutions.”
